DURING CORONA

The global pandemic brought same changes to all our lives. A lot of countries decided to go into a national or regional lockdown. Therefore, a lot of people are forced to stay at home. Adults cannot pursue their profession if their job does not allow to work from home. The normal life of a student drastically changed in the pandemic as students are no longer allowed to visit their school and children become educated from home. In the following article, you will learn more about how the students feel about this change and how they even might benefit from it. THE DAILY ROUTINE OF A STUDENT t 7:45 AM we must be prepared, properly dressed and mentally ready to start our first virtual lesson of the day. We join each video conference for 45 minutes. In the best case, those video conferences are almost similar to our normal, physically held, lessons. During these 45 minutes we get the opportunity to listen to our teacher and directly ask questions, if needed, we also obtain the chance to communicate with our fellow students. After one video conference, we have 45 minutes to work on given assignments from the previous lesson. Almost every time we are expected to upload the outcome of the assignments to our school server so that the teachers can glance a look at our results. Throughout the day this sequence of video conferences and self learning repeats up to 4 times. T A2 THE POSTIVE SIDES OF HOMESCHOOLING orking and learning from home brings a lot of advantages with it. As you have already heard before, we have to be at a video conference on time if we do not want it to be marked in our class book. Students learn to work more independently and gain a lot more experience when it comes to technology and working almost completely digitally. Furthermore, we students are now free to manage time ourselves. In some cases, we are allowed to decide when we want to work on our given assignments. Teachers just give us a certain deadline for the files to be uploaded. This again adds more flexibility to our school day. Introverts really benefit from homeschooling. They are now able to upload their homework without being forced to present their tasks in front of the whole class. Since a lot of students have their own room at home, they should be able to concentrate way better on their assignments than in a loud classroom. Therefore, some students can hand in significantly better compositions. Many students have siblings and parents who are also forced to stay at home. The qualityfamilytime spent together, and the lack of commuting time has a positive impact and creates a warm atmosphere at home. THE DOWNSIDES OF HOMESCHOOLING verall homeschooling is a great way to stay educated during the corona pandemic but there is still room for improvement. Especially, there are several problems when it comes to video conferencing. In a lot of households, there is not only one child using the internet connection. A lot of children have siblings and parents also working from home, who are also participating in video conferences. W O3 The video quality is drastically suffering due to the heavy use of the Internet. A lot of times you have to deal with a big audio latency. Therefore, it is indeed very difficult to follow the teacher while he is talking to the class, words and sometimes even whole sentences get lost. Moreover, there is another big downside of video conferencing. Since you are sitting alone in your room in front of a screen, it does not feel the same as if you were in a normal class next to all your friends. This may in some cases even cause a lack of motivation. And when you do not have a lot of motivation you will sometimes not pay enough attention and will participate less in class. This problem could be easily improved. Teachers could for example design their lessons more interactive; they could assign creative group tasks and individual interesting projects which can be solved digitally. Additionally, many teachers at our school are not very experienced when it comes to technology; this sometimes creates additional problems.
